Dr Kay Mathabe is a healthcare practitioner practising as a Urologist at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr Mathabe studied her medical degree at The University of Pretoria with the practical part of the training done at the then HF Verwoerd Hospital in Pretoria and Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville. She gained a lot of experience working at some of Africa’s busiest hospitals. Dr Mathabe did her mandatory internship and community service at Johannesburg General Hospital and Odi Community Hospital. After a six month stint in ICU at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Dr Mathabe went to England for a year and a half where she experienced healthcare delivery abroad. On her return to South Africa, Dr Mathabe enrolled in the Wits Urology training programme. In 2011 Dr Mathabe qualified as the first woman to qualify as a Urologist from the University of the Witwatersrand and the second black woman Urologist in South Africa. While Dr Mathabe treats the full spectrum of Clinical Urology patients, after delving into her work as a Urologist, Dr Mathabe has developed a special interest for bladder dysfunctions, specifically urinary incontinence in children and women, and those Urological dysfunctions caused by neurological diseases.
